The Europa Conference League 2022/23
So it looks like we are going to be in this comp next season, entering at the final play-off stage, I believe. So, are you IN, or OUT?

BENEFITS:

Another season in Europe, giving us some continuity and continued progress as a club, albeit, it is a second rate competition.

A chance of some silverware, although again it cannot be classed as a major trophy.

Winning the thing gives you entry into the Europa League group stages the following season.

More away days for our fans.

NEGATIVES:

It won't help attract any good players.

Thu - Sun football, and more complaints about player fatigue, especially if going deep into the tournament and playing our first team, much like this season.

The group stages will be full of pub sides, so will be able to play youth and back up players, again much like this season.

If we get into the latter stages and we start playing our first eleven, it could affect league form.

A lot of Sunday games - which is shit.

So, in or out?

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
Out - It's just a re-branded and longer version of the Intertoto Cup.

Thurs - Sun schedule isn't worth it for this two bob competition.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
The later stages are no different to Europa league.

Spurs actually had a harder group than us this year. They had some decent sides.

Play off round will be tricky if don’t take seriously but a good summer away day somewhere.

Europe football is what we want

Of course IN. It didn't look like much of a Tin Pot Trophy to Jose and Roma last night and it wouldn't be to us. I don't agree it won't help attract players. If you're talking about getting say, Lingard then I agree. But Tarkowski or Pope? (both players we should be after IMHO) they'd jump at the chance. Not bothering with it just perpetrates this 'We're bigger than this' attitude that pisses many off. We need it to try to tempt players that Newcastle will be sniffing round. We're not top six and we'll struggle to be top seven if we don't at least aim for this.To get bigger we need Europe every season as it means we'll need to build a bigger squad which will give us better options in the domestic cups too.

You have jumped the gun here a bit Manuel. There is absolutely no guarantee we will finish above Wolves in 7th and I wouldn't be at all surprised if we fuck it up from here and finish 8th.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
Of course I do, and I disagree that it is not a major trophy. In the unlikely event that we qualify and win the competition in 2023 I'm not having anyone say it doesn't count as a major trophy.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
Will encourage the fuckwits that didn't get players in this time to get some fucking players in. European football still, low rent as it is.

We've got to make sure we hold on to seventh yet, the form we're in that might not be a done deal.

What a shit end to a potentially great season.

How can it not be in?

I think a lot of supporters getting too big for their boots led to them totally underestimating Frankfurt and taking getting to the final for granted.

Pointless!
They got rid of the old Cup Winners Cup which had become the 3rd rate Competition, and now years later replaced it with this shit when clubs are already complaining about too many games and resting players for cup competitions in their own countries.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
It most certainly is a major trophy.

Roma/Feyenoord final speaks for itself. A better final than the Europa League.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
I don’t think a club like ours is in any position to turn our noses up at any kind of European competition. Plus it will keep up that mentality of European football too.

The final four in the Conference league were all decent sides and a final would be a huge occasion still. Plus it might be a great chance to utilise the squad next season - if we have one.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
Yep, I've made comments on here over the last few weeks about how seriously the ones left in it are now taking it, which is one reason why I'm an IN, by the way, but see there has been a few OUT's.

As for a major trophy, not sure what it is really, some seem to think it's a re-hash of the Intertoto and that was fucking shit, although this does seem a step up from that.

⚒️ 12:47 Fri May 6
Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
The Intertoto was a pre season tournament to qualify for the UEFA Cup.

The two comps are nothing alike.

Crossed - This new comp was being ridiculed on here when it was first introduced. Just saying.

Manuel 12:51 Fri May 6
It probably was but I don't think anyone thinks that now. In any case, UEFA introduced it to try and tempt those outside the top clubs with some European football and they'll build on it. I would prefer to wait till the end of the month before discussing it any further though. I think if we get there and we haven't even finished 7th then attitudes will change wildly. Regarding another comment on here, the scrapping of the CWC was a real shame as it's a great concept and was a great competition. A cup for all the cup winners - just a shame the cup winners got to be the ones who finsihed in top three most seasons.
